How Do You Feel About Summer Ending? PDF Print E-mail

It’s almost that time when we have to say good bye to the lazy days of summer and get ready for back to school.  Some of us can’t imagine the summer ending and some wish they could fast forward to September.  I have mixed feelings.  I love these carefree days but I’m also ready for a regular routine.

My summers are spent at our family cottage. My three kids go to a one week camp and the rest of time we are having fun at the cottage.  No schedule, structure or timetable to follow.  It is always laid back and relaxed.   I create a summer that is stress free and filled with lots of free time for all of us.  I’ve been doing this since I had my children and I wouldn’t change it for the world.  I feel so grateful and blessed to spend so much time at our cottage.  There’s no better place to hang out with family and friends.  I cherish our time together-these are the memories that make my summers so special.

But as we reach mid August my entire family (maybe not the kids) is looking forward to a little structure.  This is when the kids can start driving us crazy!  Too much time spent together and too much time off school.  When they fight because they’re bored I know it’s soon time to go back to school.  So, I’m torn.   I don’t want the summer to end-the warm sunny days, swimming, BBQ’s… but I’m craving some structure and time for myself.  I can’t wait to reconnect with friends I haven’t seen much of during the summer.  I miss going for coffee, dinners, drinks, walks and just catching up.  I also crave quiet time, peace from the kids playing, shouting and running around 24/7.  The sound of nothing/stillness is what I’m longing for.  I still can’t deny I’m sad that summer is coming to an end. These months are the only time of the year when I’m not “rushing around”.   There is breathing space because we have time to do nothing!!  I know I’ll miss it when it’s over and September comes.  I’m going to savour and appreciate the last few weeks before school starts!

How do you feel about summer ending?  What were some of your best memories this summer?  What do you cherish most about the summer?
