Conquering the Fear of “The Bike” – An 8 Year Old’s Journey to Shedding Her Training Wheels!
As usual, in the middle of winter, I start to scour the ads and the community newspapers for summer camp ideas for my 8 year old daughter. Before it was easy, a little ballet here, a little arts and craft camp there, but now that she’s got an 8 year old’s personality (read: determined), she wants to do only things that are exciting and not boring and something she can do perfectly. As someone who hates to try new things for fear of not perfecting it the first time around, Madelaine is a hard kid to categorize. Yes, she’s a typical kid who loves to be outside, who loves to have fun and be silly, and active, and loves to dance. BUT! There’s always the but. She’s got fears and hang ups too.
