After the birth of my daughter in 2004, I thoroughly enjoyed my full year of maternity leave. Having this time at home allowed me to explore my passion for cooking and trying new recipes. My husband and I quickly became accustomed to eating homemade meals every night of the week. In the back of my mind I knew that once I returned to my full time day job, one of my biggest challenges would be…what’s for dinner? I believe that a daily home-cooked meal should be the norm and families should routinely enjoy healthy affordable meals free of excess fat, sugar, salt, and preservatives. Near the end of my mat leave I came across the meal assembly concept while on vacation in Seattle. I was blown away! My initial thoughts were … I wish we had something like this close to home – I’d be their best customer! Shortly thereafter, I returned to my job of 16 years feeling the need for new challenges (as if being the mother of a one-year old wasn’t enough!) We were ordering take out well beyond my comfort zone. This was the beginning of the development of Just Add Heat.

Just Add Heat is a busy family’s best friend. Anyone can come to our professional style kitchen and assemble up to 12 freezer friendly meals in record time. We do the menu planning, grocery shopping, chopping, dicing, and clean up. Choose from 16 delicious new meals each month, select a time to come in to prepare them (we’re open 7 days a week), then fill up your freezer with nutritious home made meals! For those who don’t have time to assemble their own meals, or who simply don’t want to, we also have a Done Like Dinner® service where we will assemble the meals for pick up - at no extra charge.

Just Add Heat opened its doors a year ago and the journey has been awesome. I often hear from my customers “I wish I knew about you sooner”. Clearly, we are providing a service that Oakville (and Toronto, Burlington, Hamilton…) loves. We’ve had customers drive in from Barrie, London, Scarborough, and even Ottawa! Personally, it is very rewarding when customers tell us that we’ve changed their lives for the better. That’s exactly what I set out to do!
