Business: Mudpies and Daisies Children's Boutique

Ever since going to New York City to study Fashion design and after graduating from Sheridan Colleges Fashion Design and Merchandising Program I knew I was going to have my own business.  After 2 years of planning and research, I finally decided to open Mudpies and Daisies Children’s Boutique in March 2009. Mudpies and Daisies is truly a one-of- kind children’s boutique, which offers clothing, gifts and other products for children and aims to bring the charm of a downtown boutique to the families living in north Burlington.

When I was growing up, the only places to shop were unique modest boutiques. I remember visiting all these little distinctive shops with my mother and making an afternoon of it. The stores were family-owned, and sold exceptional products you couldn’t find anywhere else. They were owned and operated mostly by new immigrants, working together and starting their new lives as small business owners—they were living their dreams. I want to bring back the model of this small unique shop in the middle of the community. This combined with the inspiration and motivation that my very energetic, beautiful and precocious 3 year old daughter Samantha, made me decide to open my store. Mudpies and Daisies rekindles those memories of small-town shops and their family vibe, while providing first-class customer service and personal attention.

My goal of the store is to bring unique and affordable clothing, from classic styles to funky and trendy, from both Canada and Europe. Clothing will include formal and casual, so if you have a special event to go to you will find something at Mudpies and Daisies, age ranges from newborn to pre-teen.  Additionally, an assortment of educational toys and books, baby and kid accessories are available. Merchandise includes organic, eco-friendly and Canadian made products. I am also proud to carry local products from other inspiring women who are mothers and grandmother right here in the community.  I believe in supporting everyone’s dream, especially when it’s local.

Being a mom I understand the importance of quality products and will continue to ensure the products I carrying meet my standards and those of my customers.  This is a store that aims to be fun, creative and a destination for the residents of Burlington and beyond. In the future an online store will be added for those who prefer internet shopping.  Additional growth will include workshops for children who want to explore their creative side.

Opening a new business and being a mom certainly has had its challenges.
