It was the summer of 2005, I was on the beach of Lake Huron with my toddler, Roland, playing in the sand, and I was nursing my 3-month-old daughter, Sasha. I was daydreaming about the ultimate nursing top, I created it right there and then…in my head. When back on ‘dry land’ (London, Ontario) I started to research. Upon finding some useful information through a young company Purple Penguin, manufactures of the Penguin Wraparound carrier, I discovered they were selling the company. I thought, this will be great; I’ll ‘piggyback’ my nursing tops off of this wrap business. Easy? Right! By this time Sasha was 6 months. I tried her in the Wrap and I was a committed babywearer from that point on. The wrap was incredibly comfortable, I had 2 hands free to tend to my 2 year old, and I was sold and believed every new parent needs to know about this amazing product. After a few months of getting my feet wet in the business.

Purple Penguin received a complete image overhaul. The name was changed to “Rolz&Sassy” (the nicknames of my kids) we added the Rolz&Sassy Ring Sling the same day we went live with www.rolzandsassy.ca on June 12th 2006. And we haven’t looked back. The nursing tops will be in the Rolz&Sassy line one day. But for now we are trying to keep up with the demand of our Ring Slings and Wraps. My challenges are trying not to work when it’s kid time, realizing I need help and hiring an accountant, and of course money, money, money.

Another big challenge was my husband worked out of town 5 days a week, so I was trying to run the business and home while being a ‘single mother’ ( p.s. hats off to all single mothers!). We have recently moved to Kincardine to be with my husband so our newest challenge is running the business while renovating…I know what your thinking…glamorous!

In the near future we are hoping to expand our line and open a brick and mortar store.
