Just as many moms do; I was in my lounge clothes (ok... pajamas) trying to change diapers, prepare bottles, finish the laundry.....and just remember to keep my sanity and breathe! However, I couldn't get peace of mind even when my daughter Kate was sleeping; I knew she wasn't safe in her crib.

SleepaRoo™ began as a desperate mom looking for a logical solution. Since I decided to follow the Canadian Health Recommendations for infant crib safety, I removed the traditional bedding from her crib. This included the decorative and lets say expensive, bumper pads and matching quilt. Sure it looked great, but I didn't want to take a risk if Health Canada said it could cause strangulation and suffication. They sure didn't tell me this at the local baby store when I made my purchase!

At two months old, Kate began moving about in her crib, and pulling her blanket up and over her face. Apparently, she thought this was a comfortable sleeping position. Needless to say, that is not what a mother wants to see at 2 am! After spending countless nights of peeling the blanket from her face (and holding my breath), pulling her arms and legs out from between the crib rails; I searched the market for a solution. After coming up empty handed, and now dealing with bruises on her little head, I invented SleepaRoo™.

SleepaRoo™ is an All in One Infant Sleep System; a safer alternative to traditional crib bedding. It fits all standard crib mattresses and is designed for infants ages 0 – 12 months. SleepaRoo™ is based on the fitted sheet that has a built in sleep support. The sleep support allows the infant to remain on their back to sleep, in the centre of the crib. It also prevents the infant from rolling into the crib rails, but allows for complete movement of their head, neck, torso, arms and legs. SleepaRoo™ comes complete with a built in blanket that is attached to the fitted sheet by a zipper. This light weight blanket cannot be pulled over the infants face and allows the infant to remain warm and covered, for the duration of their sleep. It was so amazing to check on Kate and find her in the middle of the crib, on her back to sleep and with the blanket on; warm and secure.

Aside from the challenges of being a new mom, I felt the desperate need to help my daughter in anyway possible. This product, SleepaRoo™ created such a huge relief in my life that I knew I had to share it with other parents. I quickly found a manufacturer, Kushies Baby and they agreed to manufacturer SleepaRoo™ for me. Since Kushies is known for excellent quality baby products, I knew SleepaRoo™ would be just the answer for many struggling parents.

SleepaRoo™ has recently been featured on CH Morning Live, the Stoney Creek News and at the Baby and Toddler Show in Toronto. We will also be exhibiting at the BabyTime Show in April 11 – 13 2008, at the International Centre in Mississauga.

To say being a mom to Kate is an amazing experience, is truly an understatement. But, having the ability to invent such a great product, adds such validity and truth to my daily life; which still includes laundry and changing diapers. Just like many career moms, I still search for the balance between success and quality family time. But, I know that I have reached my original goal of providing a safer sleeping environment for my own daugher.

To me, SleepaRoo™ has already given me a little peace of mind that we are all searching for, when raising our children.
